There are thousands of miles of oil, gas and water pipelines stretched across the continental United States alone. Our UAVs and Intelligent Data Collection (IDC) methodology were created to save thousands of man-hours surveying these pipelines utilizing state-of-the-art surveying technology. This new innovative technology is accurate to within 3 centimeters due to Real Time Kinematic (RTK) satellite navigation techniques used to enhance the precision of position data derived from satellite-based positioning systems Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS).
When RTK AND GNSS are combined with conventional methods, the application of remote sensing in the pipeline survey industry allows for remarkable levels of accuracy and efficiency. Class location studies, preliminary centerline surveys, road profiles, and their respective deliverables can now be completed in a quarter of the time at a fraction of the cost.
Boundary surveys and foreign pipeline locates are still performed by traditional ground survey crews; however, UAI continues to development new methodology utilizing its remote sensors to capture a rarely tapped, but enormous market. These products, in conjunction with a proprietary product delivery and hosting technology, and the boundary and pipeline-locate survey data, allow for deliverables such as pipeline alignment sheets (IFR, IFB, IFC) to be accurately generated with an extraordinarily short turnaround rate.
Through our proprietary processes, UAI is able to take the XYZ values from a point cloud and add to it feature and attribute values that allow for the successful delivery of electronic data into a client’s Pipeline Open Data Standard (PODS). This recent integration of remote sensing and traditional pipeline survey methodology is allowing for increased efficiency, as well as, increased safety and accuracy ratings. The focus, to date, has been on the application of remote sensing during the preliminary phase of pipeline survey. UAI is, however, exploring and developing new applications for use during the as-built phase of pipeline. To this end, the company has already aligned with various companies in the industry to revolutionize the way surveying is done today.
Currently, UAI offers a variety of state-of-the-art surveying services to its midstream clients such as; HD aerial photography, HD 4K aerial video, elevation data, digital terrain models (DTMs), and georectified orthomosaic images of sites that are imported into Google Earth and other mapping software.
Deliverables like this provide a digital baseline of what the condition of the area was in before, during and after a project. It allows our clients to have real time imagery of their project sites, thus providing situational awareness needed to better manage, whether it be in the field or in the office.
